At the moment, we are extremely busy chatting to businesses about where they sitting in their strategic planning for next year. We are especially interested in what businesses are doing for workforce planning.

Our team at Queensland Group Training has noticed a few interesting things.

Some businesses have their busy period before Christmas. The good ones started planning for this over six months ago. The great ones started planning for this more than a year ago. Many however have no plan at all!

The Trades Apprentice Income Bonus forms part of the Government’s continuing response to maintain the increase in commencements and retention of people in skills shortage traditional trade apprenticeships as the Australian economy continues to recover from the impact of the global recession.

The Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO) signals increased support for Australian apprentices as the Gillard Government continues to invest in the skills needed for a strengthening economy. From 1 January 2011, trade apprentices working in ‘skill shortage occupations’ will receive additional tax exempt bonuses of up to $1700 as they reach milestones during their training.
